There are a lot of alternatives to EVE-UNI. I personnaly didn't like my EVE-UNI experience (it was some years ago), because it's a big rigid machine (i don't judge, it's just a fact). So what can you do now ? I have some ideas : First, trying to set a goal when you start a game isn't always easy, as there's sometimes a big difference between how you imagine an activity, and how you will really live it. So for that you need to try it. It sounds silly, what i say, but in fact it's, in my opinion, a good filter to join a first corporation : choose one where people are actually and regulary doing stuff together and who will enjoy to take a new player along. How can you find a corporation like that ? Well, many people here with direct you to the corporations' forum. That's ok, but i think there are other ways to find a first home. And it's something you can do while playing : - Pick anyone randomly in local, open his/her profile, and read the bio. Sometimes you will read trash, sometimes you will read a list of damage types, sometimes you will read a true bio, and sometimes there is no bio. - If you have a good feeling about what you have found, click on his/her corporation's icon, and read the description of the corpo. Don't focus on the number of members : better to find a corpo with ten regulary active members than 100 ghosts and alts or vets who play alone in their corner and are in a corpo just for the occasionnal chat. Read what people write. The way they express themselves on their bio or the description of their corpo is, in my opinion, more interesting than an advertising on the forums, and you will touch people you would never have crossed on the forums. - If you have a good feeling with what you have read about the corpo, click on their alliance's icon, if there is one, and read again. -If you like all what you have read, don't be shy, and contact them ! Even if they don't recruit actively, even if they say that they don't recruit, or whatever, they will maybe be surprised, touched and impressed by someone who sounds motivated by what they have written. Try... if they are rude, it was not the right place for you, and else, even if they don't take you in, you will have maybe a new contact, a nice chat, some tips, advices, addresses... which will motivate you to click on the next random char in local and start to read the bio, etc... If you are mining or missioning alone in your corner, it's a good way not to fall asleep, and to feel the different kind of people you can find in EVE. I have found a lot of funny and interesting people/corpos like that, which i would never have heard of if i had not put my nose in their profile :)
